A lady at CCCF was in the methadone program before coming here. Here she was denied any medication because she was given 6 years in prison and the prison did not want to pay for her medication. It is dangerous for someone to detox from methadone cold turkey and the prison forced her to that. There is a new law passed within the last year saying that we are supposed to get the same medical and dental care in here as we got outside the prison. According to this, our prison is breaking the law.
Another lady here has celiac disease, and because the prison is not preparing her meals properly, she is getting red blotches on her skin and that is causing internal inflammation. A kitchen coordinator here chose to punish her for trying to speak up about the preparation of her meals.
Many ladies here are being isolated from families and friends because of a policy where people have to register to be on a call list in order to be allowed to call them. The website for registering them was down for a long time and many of us who are not tech savvy did not know how to register. We want the prison to stop isolating us from our friends and family.
Another lady here has not been paid for work she did here in November. She has been trying to talk to the Inmate Worker Program (IWP) about it, but she says they were really rude to her. We hope she gets paid soon.
The lady here who runs the Cosmetology Program allows Department of Corrections staff to come in for services at half price because they pay in cash. She pockets the money. In one day you can see up to 5 persons at a time doing this.
